Home Waters 2 piece series

This has been a strange year as most of you have experienced. Overall it has been good for fly rod building, thankfully. (THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN KEEPING ME BUSY!)

One of the 2020 problems I have run into most is supply chain interruptions. Anything from shipping delays and losses, to suppliers unable to get me the parts and pieces that go into making a fly rod.

Due to those supply chain interruptions, I experienced gaps in my regular production schedule. When unable to fill those gaps with fishing and paperwork, I decided to fill the time with building some less expensive and simpler rods. So far I have built six of these, on good but inexpensive Lamiglas rod blanks I had sitting around. A few of those went to parent/child duos and they’ve loved them. One of the 5wts I gave to my 12 year old son who I think has finally really grasped the joy of fishing for himself this year. He has enjoyed his new rod so far, mainly for local bass and sunfish. I have one of those 6’6” 3wts left and will be listing that for sale soon.

After talking with some friends I saw that I could possibly fill a little niche with these rods. So in a conversation with my friend Dusty at Livingston Rod Co. I asked him if he could make me some 2 piece blanks for this coming year in 3wt, 4wt, and 5wt configurations. Nice and clean designs with easy to use actions. Those will start being available around early spring 2021.

The pricing will be around $400. The cork for these rods will be a little rougher than my typical rods but not substandard, and a rod sock and plastic screwtop tube will be included. These will be built in my spare time and are intended to be a great ‘grab and go’ rod for your local home waters. These will be a less expensive option for anyone who’d like them but I especially hope that many of these will go to kids, inspiring the next generation to get outdoors and cast a fly.

For these rods there will be no pre-orders, customization, wait list or anything of the sort. They’ll be available when I am able to finish them, no sooner, no later and will be listed here in my interweb store.
