Lookin for nothin

A while back my good friend Aaron Reed told me to listen to a ‘song’ by Greg Brown. It’s not really a song because there’s no singing but there is music. He just talks. It’s really good and has a lot to do with fishing. There’s a link below that I hope works. But if that doesn’t work, look for ‘Eugene’ by Greg Brown on the the youtubes. There are so many relatable ideas and quotes in there. There’s an adult ‘f bomb’ but it’s not too bad. Pretty fitting actually. (it seems that the link doesn’t work so I’ll try a youtubes link to the audio)

I went fishing yesterday. It was a good day. The Blue Ridge Mountains are waking up. And that’s possibly my favorite part of the year. I had to be there.

The brook trout at my favorite spot were hungry, looking up and not too concerned about the early season out of shape dude fumbling around in the shadows. I got to watch a few feed out in the middle of open bathtub sized pools. Mr. Brown says ‘brook trout are God’s reminder that Creation is a good idea’. Throughout the day I was reminded of that and smiled.

There were a few Quill Gordon’s in the air and some small black stoneflies on my pants.

I ate my my meager lunch on The Lunch Rock with Stella. Caught a few more fish. Hiked out and went home.

Mr. Brown also says ‘sometimes you gotta go not look for nothin’. That describes the best kind of fishing days. That’s what I did yesterday and I feel like I accomplished it. At least most of it, next time maybe a little more.

That’s not a Royal Wulff, but it’s a fly that I got from the Driftless Angler called the User Friendly. It worked well till I hung it in a tree.
