September updates

Hello everyone! Lots of life going on over here with changes almost everywhere. New shop, new rods, new home, daughter off to college, son in high school, working at a local outdoor shop and much more. Not as much fishing as I’d like but I’m getting out as much as I can.

New color. With these changes, I’ve decided to update the color of my Synthesis blanks to celebrate turning a new page for my little rod company. The color is reminiscent of my original Progressive ‘brown ale’ colored blanks. The blanks are unsanded and the ferrules are tip over butt like before. There is no difference in the feel from my mango colored blanks, the only difference is the color. I have an old crusty friend from Michigan who says that ‘fly rods should be brown, dammit!’. He approves of this change. I’ll update the pictures on the rest of my site soon but for now check out the images below.

The color of my Parabolic blanks will be changing soon as well. More on that once I work through a few more ideas.

Accepting orders. I want to officially announce that I’m going to start taking rod build orders effective immediately. Moving forward, I will be accepting limited orders each month. I will still take custom orders on a limited basis but most of the rod builds will have a little more standard build style. This will help lessen the lead time for completed rods, which I expect to be 3-5 months from order to completion as long as supply chain issues aren’t much of an issue. Holler if any of the below rods interest you and if you’d like to get on my build list. I’ll be offering blanks from my Synthesis series coming soon, too!

  • 6’8” 3wt 4 piece Blue Ridge Special

  • 7’2” 4wt 3 piece Driftless Special

  • 7’9” 5wt 5 piece Traveling General Practitioner

  • 8’2” 4wt 4 piece Tailwater Special

  • 7’7” 7wt 3 piece Jackpot

  • 8’6” 8/9wt 4 piece Salt

If you don’t see a rod model you’re looking for, please contact me to request a build slot and I’ll work with you to make it happen.

New models. I have a few new models coming out soon. I designed these rods for fishing the larger waters of the western US. I’m really excited about these and will share the details of these rods soon. Maybe I’ll bring back a few old designs as well. What would y’all like to see?

Fishing. I’ve heard from many of my friends out there with reports of great fishing adventures all over the world. I love it - keep them coming! I enjoyed a NC to CO and back road trip in August. Explored new waters in Virginia where my daughter is going to college. Several quick local adventures as well. You’ve got to take the opportunity when it arises. It’s been great to get out and fish. I’m looking forward to the cooler temps and hopefully some more rain to fill the creeks this fall!

As always, thanks so much for your interest in my rods and feel free to reach out to order a rod, talk fishing or ask questions. Here’s the link to the ‘contact me’ page.

Take care and good fishing, Chris
