Here’s one the first production builds of a rod of a design I’ve been thinking about making for a while. It’s a 7’3” 3wt 3 piece that has a smooth double hinge. There’s a hinge point about 18” down from the tip and another one near the second ferrule that creates a very smooth and accurate pocket water roll caster and it handles gentle overhead casts superbly. It’s got that ‘sticky’ Japanese feel to the cast and is light in hand at under 2 ounces. I tested this design out recently on a local blue line, Montana small streams, as well as in the Driftless area and I loved it. This rod fishes very well from about 5’ to 25’.

I built this one with a cigar grip, a shop-made nickel-silver cap, and a ring seat over a hand mortised Cuban mahogany seat. Medium brown wraps over dark Snake Brand guides and a Mildrum stripping guide.
